I grew up eating healthy food with no flavour (it’s harsh but true, sorry mum). When I started cooking for myself I realised their was a whole world of herbs, spices, sauces and vinegars to be explored. My taste buds came alive and I fell in love with food, it’s diversity of aromas, tastes and textures.
I learnt that even a simple meal with meat and vegetables (my mothers staple) could be elevated with a sprinkle of cayenne pepper, a sprig of rosemary and a serving of sauerkraut. Bringing a variety of healthy condiments to the table absolutely revolutionised my eating.
“Variety is the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavour” - William Cowper
Continuing in the spirit of variety and flavour, The Ginger Journal has embraced a fourfold newsletter format. Learn more about the Habit Program, Kitchen Community and Book Club.
The reason for these three different ingredients (+ the Monthly Digest) is simple. I’m embracing “the spice of life” and I hope you will too.
Monthly Menu:
Habit Program: Breakfast like a…
We all know the saying (I won’t bore you by repeating it). If it’s so important to break our evening fast with breakfast, then why do we struggle or outright refuse to do it? You may not be interested, but it’s likely one of the most important habits you’ll do every day. Next week, in the Habit Program newsletter, we’ll go over all the excuses, the strategies and the reasons why.
Kitchen Community: Kefir Milk
Known as “Grains of the Prophet”, this fermented “liquor of life” was heavily guarded until beauty and deceit brought it to the modern world. Now a rising health trend nipping at the heels of sourdough, kombucha and sauerkraut…kefir milk may be the most versatile and underrated of them all. In this months Kitchen Community newsletter we’ll be unboxing this extraordinary gift from the Caucasus mountains.
Book Club: The Blue Zones
Why are we obsessed with living longer? And is it a fading dream? Some scientists are saying that this generation will be the first to die before their parents, eek! In this months Book Club newsletter we’ll uncover the personal stories of centenarians from five unique Blue Zones and learn about the nine lessons that have contributed to their long and healthy lives.
Get your hands on a copy of the book this week and start reading! We’ll come together and review what we’ve learnt at the end of this month.
Tip: Get the audiobook version and enjoy listening to the impactful insights of Dan Buettner. Audiobooks are my secret weapon to reading a book a month amidst the chaos of life :)

Your Village
They say “it takes a village to raise a child”, but what does that mean? Is it just having enough hands to help? Or is it about surrounding yourself with a community of likeminded people who will work towards a common goal?
This “it takes a village” mentality can be applied to every area of life. Here at The Ginger Journal we believe the secret sauce to health is community. Our aim is not only to send you inspiring and informational newsletters, but to also invite you into a virtual space where we can learn and thrive together - a Ginger Village, if you will.
One way to become apart of this village is to engage, ask questions and offer support.
Let me ask you…“how do YOU like to participate in community?” (e.g. Insta, FB, email?)
